Based near Fraser Lake and only a one and a half-hour drive from Prince George, the Nadleh Whut'en First Nation has a current population of over 500 people with over half living on the Reserve. We are the 'people who live where the salmon return' having lived on our lands since time immemorial. The clans that make up our people within the Nadleh Whut'en are the Lhtseh'yoo (frog), Dunstem'yoo (bear), Luksilyoo (caribou), Lhtsumus'yoo (owl, grouse), Tsayoo (beaver).

About the Opportunity
Currently, the Nadleh Whut'en First Nation is looking for a General Manager to join our community on a full-time basis. This is a two-year contract role, however, if the successful candidate is able to secure funding for their position beyond two years the contract can be extended.
As the General Manager, you will report directly to the Chief and Council and will be responsible for providing leadership and for the overall day-to-day management of public relations, financial, administrative, personnel, and program service delivery systems of the community. In addition, you will also be responsible for adhering to and continuing to implement the Nadleh Whut'en Band Administration Law which can be found here.
More specifically your responsibilities will include:
- Acting as an advisor to the Chief and Council on any and all relevant matters.
- Working with staff to plan and coordinate monthly Chief and Council meetings.
- Working closely with First Nation Governments and Private/Public service agencies to establish complementary working relationships that are strategic to the community.
- Ensuring annual operating budgets and financial projections for the community are developed and submitted to the Chief and Council for approval by the beginning of each fiscal year.
- Working with the Finance Officer to ensure all community financial records are maintained in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures (GAAP), the INAC Year-end Reporting Guide, and any other program funding agency contribution agreement requirements.
- Overseeing, with the assistance of the Finance Officer, the day-to-day financial management of the community and ensuring all financial systems and processes including approval of expenditures, cheque writing, and filing systems and audit preparations, comply with best-practice standards and meet the requirements of community funding agencies and the auditor.
- Working cooperatively with staff and Chief and Council in the preparation and submission of grant/funding proposals and actively participating in discussions with funding agencies concerning any funding agreement terms and conditions.
- Hiring, orientating, training, supervising, scheduling, evaluating, and disciplining all staff.
- Working with Chief and Council, or a designated committee, to develop, maintain, and revise appropriate personnel policies and procedures of the community.
- Overseeing program administrators' efforts and overall operations with respect to programs that span education, health, housing, membership registration, social assistance, economic development, and the community store.
In order to qualify for this role, you will need a bachelor's degree in Business Administration or similar combined with at least three years of experience working at a management level in a not-for-profit organization. Preference will be given to individuals that have worked with a First Nations community before. A valid class 5 driver's licence and driver's abstract is also required as is the ability to pass a criminal record check.
Our ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of and respect for Indigenous culture, customs, traditions, and issues. In addition, it is essential that you have strong Human Resource skills with the ability to manage, supervise, and provide support to staff in determining programs/services. Equally the ability to write funding proposals is also required.
In this high-profile position, you will have strategic and long-range planning skills, coupled with experience in organizational development/governance as well as public affairs. Sound decision-making skills and the ability to motivate your staff will also be crucial to your success in the role. Since you will be interacting with a variety of stakeholders, you will join us with outstanding communication skills, both in verbal and written form.
