The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, announced on February 14, 2018 that the Government of Canada will develop – in full partnership with indigenous peoples – a Recognition and I

We now have a new criminal defense in Canada. It is called the “Oops, I didn’t mean to do it” defense as least as it applies to indigenous peoples. You can say that and get away with killing a young indigenous man that has the promise of a wonderful future in front of him.

I remember the happiness and good energy when John Horgan accepted being Premier of the province.  Gone was Christy Clark and her regressive government! Oh, happy day!!

It is hard to describe how I felt when I heard that the government of BC approved the Site C dam to continue.  That this was the consensus of the cabinet makes it even more incredulous to me and I am very disillusioned with what I had hoped to be a change in values and methods of government.

Monday December 11, 2017 seems to be the day that Premier John Horgan will make his decision if Site C will proceed or if it will be cancelled.

One of the biggest problems First Nations have always had is having non First Nations people understand what is important to us and why.  The Supreme Court of Canada decision rendered yesterday in the case of Ktunaxa Nation v. British Columbia shows that clearly.

It is definitely a new day in British Columbia as John Horgan was sworn in as the 36th Premier. Finally, Christy Clark and her cabinet are gone with their regressive attitudes.

Oh, what a night!

A few months ago I heard rumblings that there would be no sockeye for food fish for the Hupacasath.  I thought it had to be just a rumour because we have never had a year that I can remember that we didn’t have sockeye for food.  It has now been confirmed and is fact that only 172,000 shall retur

Through all the radio/TV/internet debates, the issue of First Nations did not come up with the exception of Pembina’s webinar in which I asked a question whether their parties would create First Nations opportunities in the clean energy sector.

5 days before the election in BC.  Will there be a new Premier at the helm?  After 16 years of the Liberals in power we certainly need a new direction, a new Premier, one who will truly care about the people and the richness of the lands and waters we have.

Picture in your mind your most special place on earth you love to go to for reflection, relaxation and to soak in the power of the earth, water and sky.  Your place.

BC’s 2017 speech from the Throne was shorter than usual with little in it for First Nations.  Coming into an election in May of this year you would think this speech would be stellar and full of important commitments

Note to Reader: I made this presentation on February 9th 2017 at a forum that was hosted by UVIC, Amnesty International, Sierra Club BC, Council of Canadian, Kairos BC. It was a 20 minute presentation so this article is a bit long.
